Carnival Employees ‘Take the Plunge’ to Raise Money for Maryland Special Olympics

Proving that Carnival employees will do just about anything for a good cause, Vice President of Sales – Eastern Region Kirk Neal and Business Development Director for Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia Kathy Donnelly were among the thousands of individuals who braved the icy waters of Chesapeake Bay as part of the Polar Bear Plunge benefiting Maryland Special Olympics. Dozens of travel agent partners, along with their friends and family members and the line’s mascot “Fun Ship” Freddy, participated, as well.

Carnival was also a sponsor of the annual event, which collects donations from various individuals, groups and organizations pledging to “take the plunge.” Participants ventured into the chilly waters at different intervals over the course of several hours, raising thousands of dollars for Special Olympics’ athletic programs for special needs children.

Carnival Victory to Reposition to Miami to Offer Four- and Five-Day Cruises

Carnival Cruise Lines will increase capacity on its seven-day Southern Caribbean itineraries from San Juan, as well as on its four- and five-day cruises from Miami, deploying newer, larger ships in both markets.

The 2,974-passenger Carnival Valor will launch a five-port, seven-day schedule from San Juan beginning Feb. 10, 2013, becoming the newest and largest ship to operate year-round from that port.

Carnival Valor will replace the 2,758-passenger Carnival Victory, which will reposition from San Juan to Miami to assume the Carnival Destiny’s four- and five-day cruises beginning Feb. 4, 2013. Carnival Victory will be the newest and largest ship to operate year-round four- and five-day voyages from South Florida.

Additionally, Carnival Destiny will offer a 16-day transatlantic crossing departing Miami Feb. 4 and arriving Civitavecchia (Rome) on Feb. 20, 2013. Featured ports on the crossing include Ponta Delgada (Azores), Portugal; Malaga, Spain; Monte Carlo, Monaco; and Genoa and Livorno, Italy. Details on the Carnival Destiny’s deployment following the trans-Atlantic crossing will be announced at a later date.

Port-Intensive Week-Long Cruises from San Juan
Beginning Feb. 10, 2013, Carnival Valor will launch seven-day Southern Caribbean sailings from San Juan becoming the port’s newest and largest year-round ship. The itinerary features extended calls at five tropical islands – St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.; Bridgetown, Barbados; St. Lucia, West Indies; St. Kitts, West Indies; and St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. In addition to featuring some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches, these seaside destinations are known for their world-class snorkeling and scuba diving, as well as water sports opportunities.

Four- and Five-Day Voyages from Miami
Carnival Victory will become the newest and largest ship to offer year-round four- and five-day cruises from Miami when it launches service on Feb. 4, 2013. Carnival Victory’s Miami-based schedule features three distinctly different itineraries, providing consumers with a variety of convenient and affordable cruise options departing from one of America’s top tourist destinations.

Four-day “long weekend” cruises departing Thursdays call at Key West, Fla., and Cozumel,Mexico; five-day cruises departing Mondays include stops at Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands; the private Bahamian island of HalfMoon Cay; and Nassau, Bahamas. Five-day voyages departing Saturdays feature George Town, Grand Cayman; and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Each of these destinations offers a truly unique vacation experience, with miles of gorgeous white-sand beaches and an interesting array of shore excursion choices such as zip-lining, horseback riding, kayaking, and more.

Special Voyages from Miami and San Juan
Carnival Victory will also offer a one-of-a-kind eight-day cruise from San Juan to Miami departing Jan. 27, 2013, with stops at St. Thomas, Aruba, Curacao and Nassau, while Carnival Valor will feature a one-time seven-day cruise from Miami to San Juan departing on Feb. 3, 2013, visiting Grand Turk, Antigua, St. Kitts and St. Thomas.

Schedule Features Variety of Itineraries, Including Baltic, Mediterranean, British Isles, and Norway

Carnival Cruise Lines will launch its widest array of European itineraries ever with Carnival Legend offering an exciting choice of options, including the line’s first Norwegian fjords itinerary and its first extended program from the UK, as well as cruises to the Baltic, Mediterranean and British Isles, beginning in spring 2013.

Carnival Legend’s schedule will encompass 12-day voyages to Norway/Western Europe, the British Isles and the Baltic departing from Dover (London), along with 12-day Mediterranean cruises departing from Venice, Barcelona and Dover.

In total, Carnival Legend will operate 17 European cruises between April 22 and Oct. 31, 2013, visiting 34 ports across 18 countries.

“For the Carnival Legend’s 2013 European season, we’ve assembled a truly outstanding collection of ports that offer our guests an exciting diversity of experiences, from viewing breathtaking Norwegian fjords and the lush Irish countryside to visiting centuries-old landmarks and exploring UNESCO World Heritage cities such as St. Petersburg and Tallinn,” said Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and CEO.

Norway/Western Europe, British Isles Cruises Round-Trip from Dover
For the first time, Carnival Legend will offer an extended series of voyages from Dover (London) with 12-day cruises to Norway/Western Europe, the British Isles and the Baltic, each offering a spectacular array of interesting and awe-inspiring ports of call, from quaint villages to cosmopolitan cities.

The program includes a “Norway & Western Europe” cruise offering a unique combination of ports, as well as the unforgettable experience of sailing the Norwegian fjords. The voyage will operate Sept. 1-13, 2013, and visit Alesund, Bergen, Stavanger, and Oslo, Norway; Hamburg, Germany; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Zeebrugge (Bruges), Brussels, Belgium; and Le Havre (Paris), France.

A “British Isles, Norway & France” voyage will depart Sept. 13, 2013, and feature stops at Stavanger, Norway; Edinburgh, Invergordon, and Glasgow (Greenock) Scotland; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Dublin, Ireland; and Le Havre (Paris), France.

Six “Baltic Wonders & St. Petersburg” cruises will also be offered, visiting Copenhagen, Denmark; Berlin (Warnemunde), Germany; Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia (overnight call); Tallinn, Estonia; and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Departure dates include June 21, July 3, 15 and 27, and Aug. 8 and 20, 2013. The June 21 departure will visit Zeebrugge (Bruges), Brussels, Belgium, instead of Amsterdam.

12-day Mediterranean Cruises
Several different Mediterranean cruises will also be offered, providing guests an opportunity to experience and explore some of the region’s most popular and picturesque ports of call and enjoy a wide variety of dining, shopping and sightseeing choices.

The schedule includes 12-day cruises from Venice to Barcelona departing May 4 and 28, and Oct. 31, 2013. On these voyages, guests can tour medieval castles, sample delicious local cuisine, and marvel at ornate churches and other historic architecture as they visit Dubrovnik, Croatia; Messina, Naples, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Livorno, Italy; and Marseilles, France. The May 4 and Oct. 31 departures also include Athens, Greece; and Izmir, Turkey; while the May 28 voyage stops at Monte Carlo, Monaco; and Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Carnival Legend will also operate 12-day Western Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona to Dover June 9-21 and from Dover to Barcelona Sept. 25-Oct. 7, 2013. These cruises offer guests the chance to sample all the region has to offer with extended visits to stunning seaside destinations in five countries, including Marseilles, France; Monte Carlo, Monaco; Livorno and Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy; Malaga, Spain; and Lisbon, Portugal.

Also featured are three “Grand Mediterranean” voyages sailing from Barcelona to Venice April 22, May 16 and Oct. 19, 2013. These voyages feature stops at Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Monte Carlo, Monaco; Marseilles, France; Livorno, Naples, Civitavecchia (Rome) and Messina, Italy; and Dubrovnik, Croatia, along with an overnight call in Venice to provide guests with ample opportunities to explore this world-class city. The Oct. 19 voyage will include a stop at Olbia (Sardinia), Italy, instead of Monaco.

Rounding out Carnival Legend’s 2013 Europe program is a 12-day voyage round-trip from Barcelona Oct. 7-19, 2013, with calls at Marseilles, France; Livorno, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Naples, Italy; Dubrovnik, Croatia; and Venice (overnight call) and Messina, Italy.

15-Day Transatlantic Crossings in April and November 2013
Carnival Legend will operate a 15-day transatlantic crossing departing Tampa on April 7 and arriving Barcelona April 22, 2013. Featured ports on this voyage include King’s Wharf, Bermuda; Ponta Delgada (Azores), Portugal; and Malaga and Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Following its European schedule, the ship will operate another 15-day transatlantic crossing from Barcelona to Tampa Nov. 12-27, 2013, calling at Palma de Mallorca and Malaga, Spain; Funchal (Madeira), Portugal; Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands; and the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay.

From Tampa, Carnival Legend will sail on a special four-day cruise before resuming seven-day Caribbean service Dec. 1, 2013. The week-long cruises call at Half Moon Cay; Nassau, The Bahamas; and Key West, Fla.; or George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico; Mahogany Bay, Roatan; and Belize City, Belize.

Next Spring, Carnival Miracle Repositions to West Coast to Operate Alaska, Hawaii and Mexican Riviera Cruises; Carnival Splendor Makes Big Apple Debut Offering Year-Round Voyages to the Caribbean

Carnival Cruise Lines announced several exciting itineraries for the 2013 season designed to offer more fun and memorable cruise options on both coasts.

Next spring, the company will reposition Carnival Miracle to the West Coast following a special Panama Canal voyage, and bring Carnival Splendor to New York, following three spectacular South America cruises.

The 2,124-passenger Carnival Miracle will shift to the West Coast in spring 2013 to operate the line’s Alaska and Hawaii cruises, currently offered on the Carnival Spirit, which is being repositioned to Australia to operate the line’s first cruises from that country. Carnival Miracle will also operate a seasonal Mexican Riviera program featuring the seven-day itinerary currently available on Carnival Splendor.

In turn, the 3,006-passenger Carnival Splendor will reposition to New York to assume Carnival Miracle’s year-round eight-day Caribbean schedule beginning in March 2013, representing a capacity increase of 41 percent with this newer vessel. Before making its Big Apple debut, Carnival Splendor will offer three fantastic 13- to 18-day South America voyages from February to March 2013.

“Carnival Miracle, which recently emerged from a refurbishment that included the addition of an exclusive Serenity adults-only retreat and other enhancements, will provide guests with a fresh and exciting choice for West Coast cruising,” said Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and CEO. “At the same time, Carnival Splendor will provide a newer, larger ship on our year-round program from New York and during the course of its repositioning will offer three South America cruises that visit some of the region’s most spectacular and sought-after destinations,” he added.

Exciting South America and Panama Canal Cruises
The repositioning of these two ships has provided an opportunity to offer a number of exciting voyages to South America and the Panama Canal.

Carnival Splendor will offer three South America voyages in February and March 2013. A 17-day “South America Explorer” cruise will depart Long Beach Feb. 3 and arrive Santiago (Valparaiso), Chile, Feb. 20, 2013, visiting Cabo San Lucas and Huatulco, Mexico; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; Quito (Manta), Ecuador, where guests can embark on an excursion to the Galapagos; Lima (Callao), Peru, offering an opportunity to visit Machu Picchu; and Arica, Chile.

A 13-day “Fjords, Glaciers & Patagonia” voyage will operate from Santiago (Valparaiso) to Buenos Aires, Argentina, Feb. 20 to March 5, 2013, calling at Puerto Montt, Chile, before cruising the Chilean Fjords and Darwin Channel. This breathtaking itinerary is followed by calls at Punta Arenas, Chile; Ushuaia and Puerto Madryn, Argentina; and Montevideo, Uruguay.

An 18-day “Brazilian & Caribbean Splendor” voyage sailing from Buenos Aires to New York March 5-23, 2013, will feature ports that include Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Recife, and Fortaleza, Brazil; Bridgetown, Barbados; and Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands.

Carnival Miracle will operate a 15-day Panama Canal cruise from New York to Long Beach March 16-31, 2013, positioning the vessel for its year-round West Coast deployment. In addition to the unforgettable experience of transiting the Panama Canal, the cruise will visit beautiful and historic destinations in five different countries, including Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands; Cartagena, Colombia; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Carnival Miracle to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexican Riviera
Carnival Miracle will operate seven-day Mexican Riviera cruises from Long Beach featuring the seaside resort town of Puerto Vallarta and a special two-day visit to beautiful Cabo San Lucas. These popular cruises will be offered in April 2013 and from October 2013 through April 2014.

Carnival Miracle will reposition from Long Beach to Seattle in spring 2013 to operate the line’s seven-day “Fun Ship” Alaska program. Following a special eight-day Alaska cruise from Vancouver to Seattle departing April 29, the week-long voyages will depart from Seattle every Tuesday from May 7 to Sept. 10, 2013, calling at the scenic Alaska destinations of Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, as well as Victoria, British Columbia, and cruising Tracy Arm Fjord. This unforgettable Alaskan experience will offer consumers myriad opportunities to explore and enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery and wildlife of The Last Frontier.

Carnival Miracle will offer several 15-day Hawaii cruises in 2013 and 2014. Three cruises will operate roundtrip from Long Beach with departures on Oct. 19 and Dec. 7, 2013, as well as Jan. 18, 2014. There will also be a 15-day Hawaii cruise from Long Beach to Vancouver departing April 14, 2013 and another from Vancouver to Long Beach departing Sept. 17, 2013. These voyages feature some of the Aloha State’s most beautiful and breathtaking ports of call, including Hilo, Kona, Nawiliwili, Kahului, and Honolulu.

Carnival Splendor to Cruise Year-Round From the Big Apple
Beginning March 23, 2013, Carnival Splendor will launch a year-round schedule of eight-day Caribbean cruises from New York with three uniquely different itineraries that showcase the brilliant diversity of destinations throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas and Florida. The eight-day itineraries include Bahamas/Florida cruises with port calls to Port Canaveral (Orlando), Fla., Nassau and Freeport, The Bahamas; Eastern Caribbean departures with visits to San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. and Grand Turk; and Exotic Eastern Caribbean cruises to the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk and Nassau. After receiving nearly 16,000 entries, Carnival Cruise Lines has selected five winners for the recent “5D Challenge: TRIVIAL PURSUIT Edition,” a Facebook promotion highlighting the new Thrill 5D Theater set to debut on the Carnival Breeze this summer.

Contest participants who correctly answered three movie-themed trivia questions from Hasbro’s popular TRIVIAL PURSUIT game were entered into a drawing awarding a different prize each day over the course of a week.

Carnival Breeze’s Thrill 5D Theater provides guests with a multi-dimensional experience that will make them feel like they are actually in the movie. The attraction combines a high-definition 3D projection system with 4D elements such as squirting water and bubbles, and special effects that tickle guests’ legs and poke them in their seats. Seats will vibrate, shift back and forth and move from side to side, creating an exciting “fifth-dimensional” element. Guests will receive special 3D glasses that deliver a truly immersive movie-going experience.

The Thrill 5D Theater is just one of several on-board features available on the 3,690-passenger vessel, which will be the first in the fleet to include all of the entertainment offerings introduced as part of Fun Ship 2.0, a $500 million multi-ship enhancement program that will dramatically transform Carnival’s on-board guest experience.

New Serenity Adults-Only Retreat Added to Carnival Miracle During Recent Dry Dock

Carnival Miracle resumed service from Fort Lauderdale last week following a two-week dry dock that included the addition of a Serenity adults-only retreat located aft on Lido Deck 9, new flat-screen TVs in all staterooms, and a number of cosmetic enhancements.

Introduced in 2007, Serenity areas have become quite popular with guests and including Carnival Miracle, the exclusive adults-only areas are now available on 20 of 23 Carnival ships. Serenity will also be featured on the new Carnival Breeze when it debuts this summer.

Designed as an ocean-going oasis for relaxation, tranquility and comfort, Serenity includes such features as whirlpools and plush chaise lounges and chairs, as well as hammocks, perfect for taking in the breathtaking ocean vistas.

Carnival Miracle’s Serenity retreat also includes a pool along with a full bar offering a tempting selection of icy cocktails and frozen concoctions. Guests interested in a snack or casual meal can visit Horatio’s, a two-level eatery conveniently located nearby.

Carnival Miracle’s refurbishment also included flat-screen TVs in all 1,062 staterooms, as well as updates to both the main pool and children’s wading pool and a refurbished night club with a more contemporary design and new furniture and carpeting.

Carnival Miracle currently sails from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on eight-day Caribbean voyages and will launch the line’s first-ever year-round Caribbean service from New York beginning April 12.

New ‘Green Thunder’ Thrill Slide, Serenity Adults-Only Retreat Added During Carnival Spirit’s Recent Dry Dock

Carnival Spirit resumed service from San Diego, Calif., last month following a multi-million-dollar dry dock that added an expansive aqua park featuring a one-of-a-kind water attraction, along with a new adults-only retreat and flat-screen TVs in all staterooms.

The new Green Thunder thrill slide takes center stage at the WaterWorks aqua park on Deck 11, rising nearly 100 feet in the air and featuring a heart-racing plummet followed by a hairpin turn that extends out over the ship’s side before the ride comes to an exhilarating end. In the spiral see-through slide, riders travel at speeds of more than 20 feet per second! Also new is a SplashZone complete with a 150-gallon PowerDrencher dump bucket and water play areas, complementing a corkscrew Twister water slide.

The refurbishment also included Serenity, an adults-only retreat located on Lido Deck 9 offering magnificent ocean views. Here, guests can relax in a jumbo-sized whirlpool, kick back on chaise lounges, chairs and hammocks, take a dip in the pool, or enjoy a variety of frosty libations at the full-service bar.

Additionally, new flat-screen LCD televisions were added to all of the Carnival Spirit’s 1,062 staterooms.

The refurbishment was in preparation for the Carnival Spirit’s upcoming deployment to Australia where the ship will operate eight- to 13-day Pacific Islands and New Zealand cruises beginning in October. The ship will operate a schedule of Mexican Riviera, Alaska and Hawaii voyages from the U.S. before making the move “Down Under.”
