The retirement of Captain Gianpaolo Casula was marked with a reception at Carnival Cruise Lines’ Miami headquarters. The event, which was attended by dozens of friends and co-workers, served to pay tribute to the captain’s long and distinguished maritime career which spans nearly 50 years, including the past 34 years at Carnival.During the reception, Captain Casula was given a number of commemorative gifts, including a traditional maritime clock presented by Carnival’s Senior Vice President of Marine Operations Brendan Corrigan (left) and President and CEO Gerry Cahill (right) pictured here.
Captain Casula joined Carnival in 1976 as first officer and, after moving up through the ranks, was named captain in 1986. Over the course of his 34-year Carnival career, he commanded virtually every vessel in the company’s fleet.
Prior to joining Carnival, Casula worked for eight years at Costa Cruises and five years on various cargo and tanker ships at Carlo Cameli Lines.
