High school students participating in Carnival’s Scholarship & Mentoring program recently had a special visitor – NFL All-Pro linebacker and University of Miami alum Ray Lewis who offered a truly inspirational speech about staying on the right path and following your dreams. Lewis, whose passion for the football field obviously is a reflection of his everyday life, addressed the students and their mentors for more than an hour, captivating their attention with poignant tales of his upbringing, his life beyond the gridiron, and overcoming obstacles on the road to success.  He also detailed his volunteer service efforts and implored the students to help make a difference in their communities. Carnival Culinary Professionals Recognized at 7th Annual Bacardi Cruise Competition

Adri Ford, a bartender at the new Alchemy Bar on the Carnival Liberty, was named “Bartender of the Year” at the 7th annual Bacardi Cruise Competition, which attracted nearly 1,900 food and beverage entries from culinary professionals representing 27 cruise and ferry operators from around the world. Additionally, Daniel Rodriguez, a junior sous chef on the Carnival Legend, was named a semi-finalist in the culinary main course category for his entrée, “Brillat Savarin,” tournedos of beef made with Bacardi OakHeart Spiced Rum, Noilly Prat vermouth and aged mushrooms. Carnival Conquest – the next ship in line to receive the extensive dining, bar and entertainment enhancements that are part of the company’s ongoing Fun Ship 2.0 initiative – will reposition from New Orleans to Miami in November 2013 to operate year-round seven-day Caribbean departures from that port. On its new Miami-based schedule, Carnival Conquest will depart every Sunday, offering two distinctly different Caribbean itineraries beginning Nov. 24, 2013.  Week-long eastern Caribbean cruises call at Nassau, St.  Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk, while the western route features extended stops at Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize, and Mahogany Bay (Isla Roatan). The Grand Turk Cruise Center (GTCC) is celebrating the island’s unique place in history during Space Exploration Week March 19-22 which closely coincides with the 50th anniversary of astronaut John Glenn’s splashdown of the Friendship 7 space capsule off the island’s coast in 1962.  The splashdown represented the United States’ first successful manned orbit of the earth. The Space Exploration Week festivities kicked off on Monday at the GTCC with the unveiling of a series of newly commissioned murals depicting the past, present and future of space exploration.  The murals serve as a central component of “Splashdown Grand Turk,” a 3,500-square-foot attraction at the Grand Turk Cruise Center that celebrates the relationship of the American spaceflight mission and its importance…

Talk about brand loyalty! Dennis Coleman of Baltimore last week sailed on his 100th Carnival cruise – a seven-day Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Dream from Port Canaveral, Fla. – becoming only the fourth guest in the company’s 40-year history to achieve this distinction. To commemorate this significant milestone, the Port Canaveral embarkation staff and the Carnival Dream team truly went all out in making Coleman’s cruise truly memorable.   The festivities started before Coleman even boarded the ship, with the embarkation staff creating a special banner to celebrate his arrival.  The fun continued once on board where Coleman he received the full VIP treatment, including a special dinner with Captain Massimo Marino and his officers, as well as a complimentary…

During last night’s Miami HEAT game, Miami-based Carnival Corporation & plc and its flagship brand, Carnival Cruise Lines, presented full four-year scholarships to 13 local high school seniors who are participating in an innovative workplace mentoring program operated in conjunction with the Miami HEAT and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami.  Each student also received a laptop computer, compliments of Carnival. The students are graduates of the Carnival-sponsored HEAT Academy, an after-school enrichment program for third- to fifth-grade students.  Since completing the program, Carnival has tracked their academic progress through middle school and the students were then selected to participate in the workplace mentoring program during high school.  The workplace mentoring program pairs nearly 100 local high school students…

Carnival in the Community

As one of South Florida’s largest employers, Carnival and its employees support a wide variety of local charitable organizations and causes. Most recently, members of the company’s volunteer service group, the “Fun Team,” along with their friends and family members, participated in a beach clean-up along Miami Beach’s South Pointe Park collecting dozens of bags of refuse and helping to restore the beach to its pristine condition.  Additionally, the corporate audit department held its annual team-building/volunteer activity at Feeding South Florida, sorting and distributing more than 13,000 pounds of food as part of the organization’s Mobile Pantry, which provides food to hundreds of local residents. Carnival’s sponsorship of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, which included the Fun & Fit as a Family event and the Amstel Light Burger Bash, is chronicled with a an informative video and a series of colorful images from the memorable weekend. The festivities kicked off at Amstel Light Burger Bash with Carnival’s culinary partner and Food Network star, Guy Fieri. At the event, the chef entered his signature Straight‐Up with a Pig Patty burger, which was developed for his namesake dining venue on the Carnival Liberty. Looking to keep up with Carnival Cruise Lines’ news and information in 140 characters or less?  Then check out the public relations department’s recently launched Twitter account, @CarnivalPR, which offers updates on new shipboard features, itineraries, links to on-line videos and more. The @CarnivalPR Twitter feed is part of the company’s recently revamped press room which includes the Carnival news blog, a comprehensive press room with press release archives, ship-specific information and backgrounders, and other helpful information.
