Following a successful pilot program on the Carnival Imagination and Carnival Liberty, Carnival Cruise Lines will begin testing the new Faster to the Fun program on the Carnival Destiny starting Oct. 20 and Carnival Valor Oct. 21. Faster to the Fun provides guests with an exciting array of highly attractive benefits including priority embarkation, early stateroom availability and express luggage delivery, among other features, available for purchase through the new Faster to the Fun program.  Other components of Faster to the Fun include priority dinner seatings and tender priority going ashore, and choice of early or late debarkation. In a scene that has been played out since men first ventured to sea aboard ships, Carnival Spirit’s guests and crew witnessed a traditional maritime ceremony during their 16-day trans-Pacific crossing to Australia. The time-honored ceremony involves converting “pollywogs” — crewmembers and junior officers who have not crossed the equator on a ship — into “shellbacks,” or seasoned sailors. The crossing was achieved at 9:46 p.m. on Oct. 4 and the ship’s horn blared to announce the event and called guests to the Lido Deck for the ceremony. Demonstrating that even the youngest members of the Carnival family are committed to giving back to their community, kids from the company’s on-site day care center at the Miami headquarters held a bike-a-thon to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the cruise line’s primary charitable partner. Pedaling everything from tricycles and scooters to bikes with and without training wheels, the kids  raced around the playground while raising more than $200 for the fight against pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases. The bike-a-thon is just the latest example of the company’s efforts to raise funds and awareness for the Memphis, Tenn.-based hospital.  Most recently, the company raised $2,300 through a cuddly bear sale for its shoreside employees that mirrored…
