Posted on: January 17th, 2013 - Ship Overviews

Carnival Cruise Lines’ 110,000-ton Carnival Valor, which operates week-long southern Caribbean cruises from San Juan, provides a truly unique vacation experience, with a host of “resort-style” amenities and an exciting array of stunning public rooms and facilities.

On its San Juan-based schedule Carnival Valor departs on Sundays calling at five tropical islands  – St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.; Bridgetown, Barbados; St. Lucia, West Indies; St. Kitts, West Indies; and St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles.  Carnival Valor will reposition to Port Canaveral, Fla., to operate year-round five – to eight-day Caribbean voyages beginning in spring 2015.

In addition to a diversity of themed bars, lounges and nightspots, Carnival Valor features myriad full-service and casual dining choices, an expansive health and fitness facility, supervised children and teen programs, and all-inclusive shipboard and shoreside wedding packages.

Carnival Valor houses a variety of dramatic spaces celebrating heroes real and imagined, as well as heroic eras and feats from the past.  These areas range in style from One Small Step, a sizzling dance club with a lunar-inspired décor that pays homage to Neil Armstrong’s legendary walk on the moon; and Lindy Hop, a piano bar that takes its cue from Charles Lindberg’s famous flight and includes a model and flight path of his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis.

Other rooms include the Eagles Show Lounge, a tribute to the United States’ national bird, with images of eagles and vitrines containing realistic models of life-size eagles in their natural habitat; the Bronx Sports Bar, which  celebrates one of America’s most famous sports teams, the New York Yankees, with a re-creation of fabled Yankee stadium and baseball-themed design elements;  and the Ivanhoe Show Lounge, a 1,400-seat theater recalling the classic tale by Sir Walter Scott, with large castles flanking the stage, walls featuring a figure of a knight in full armor and Medieval-style tapestries.

Dining is considered one of the highlights of a “Fun Ship” cruise and Carnival Valor offers a wide variety of delectable choices to suit any palate.  In addition to the full-service Washington and Lincoln formal dining rooms featuring extensive menus and wine lists, Carnival Valor includes Rosie’s, a casual poolside eatery with full breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, 24-hour pizza and ice cream, a specialty seafood area, pasta-and meat-carving stations, and a deli.  Other dining options include Scarlett’s, a classic American steakhouse serving U.S.D.A. prime dry-aged beef, along with seafood, chops and traditional steakhouse side dishes. A patisserie with specialty coffees and sweets, and complimentary 24-hour stateroom service is also available. All dining room menus feature vegetarian, children’s and health-conscious selections.

‘CAMP CARNIVAL,’ ‘CIRCLE C,’ ‘CLUB O2’ – Building upon Carnival’s distinction as the family cruise leader carrying 725,000 children annually fleetwide, Carnival Valor offers organized programs for three different age groups – Camp Carnival for 2- to 11-year-olds, Circle “C” for 12- to 14-year-olds, and Club O2 for 15- to 17-year-olds – with supervised activities and expansive, modern facilities for each group.  Carnival Valor also houses four swimming pools, including a children’s wading pool and an aft pool offering a 214-foot-long water slide.

‘HEALTH AND FITNESS FACILITY’ – Fitness has become an important part of people’s daily lives and guests sailing on Carnival Valor can take advantage of the ship’s expansive “Spa Carnival” health and fitness facility.  Among the largest facilities of its kind, the 13,300-square-foot “floating health club” offers a full gymnasium housing the latest exercise equipment, a mirrored aerobics room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, steam rooms and saunas, and a sophisticated menu of body and facial treatments, including a number of exotic “European-style” therapies.  An exotic Polynesian design theme with lush foliage, teak decking, and a waterfall, and a faux-stone wall creates a soothing and beautiful venue for relaxation and enjoyment. A salon offering a variety of hair, nail and make-up services is available, as well.

CARNIVAL’S SEASIDE THEATRE- Carnival Valor also features the line’s popular “Carnival Seaside Theatre,” a massive 270-square-foot LED screen on Lido Deck displaying movies, concerts, sporting events, and other programming, including a “Morning Show” hosted by the ship’s cruise director.  Utilizing the same technology featured in large stadiums and New York’s Times Square, the state-of-the-art entertainment system includes a 70,000-watt sound system, providing concert quality sound, even outdoors.

SPACIOUS ACCOMODATIONS- As part of Carnival’s fleetwide stateroom amenities, all of the Carnival Valor’s 1,487 staterooms feature the “Carnival Comfort Bed” sleep system, featuring plush mattresses, luxurious duvets and duvet covers, fluffy pillows and high quality sheets and linens. All accommodations include terrycloth bathrobes and all staterooms offer in-cabin amenity kits with a variety of brand-name product samples for men and women.

INTERNET CAFÉ, WI-FI ACCESS, CELL PHONE SERVICE – Like all “Fun Ships,” Carnival Valor offers an Internet café with private workstations featuring flat-screen monitors, along with bow-to-stern Wi-Fi access enabling guests to access the Internet in all areas of the ship, including their staterooms.  Guests can also make and receive cell phone calls whether the ship is at sea or in port.
