The latest in a video series that showcases the unprecedented refurbishment of the Carnival Sunshine focuses on the more than 3,000 workers who hail from 40 different countries from around the globe. Comprised of Carnival employees, contractors and subcontractors, the workers have convened at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy to transform the Carnival Destiny into Carnival Sunshine during a massive $155 million dry dock that will add a host of dining, bar and entertainment innovations.   Workers are also renovating the ship’s existing 1,321 staterooms as well as creating another 182 brand new cabins which will be located above the ship’s navigational bridge.  All staterooms will feature flat-screen televisions and a bright, Caribbean-inspired décor.   Adri Ford, a bartender at the Alchemy Bar aboard Carnival Conquest, has been named “Bartender of the Year” at the annual Bacardi Cruise Competition for the second consecutive year.   She also received the “People’s Choice Award” which is voted on by guests attending the annual event, which this year attracted a record 2,800 entries from bartenders and chefs throughout the cruise industry. Ford earned her second Bartender of the Year award for creating the Bacardi Caribbean Hideaway, a refreshing cocktail featuring Bacardi’s Oakheart rum, which was the required ingredient for the signature cocktail category this year.   Ford received a $5,000 check and an etched glass trophy for her winning entry.  Additionally, Carnival Cruise Lines earned a free on-board Bacardi…

During Sunday night’s Miami HEAT game, Miami-based Carnival Corporation & plc and its flagship brand, Carnival Cruise Lines, presented full four-year scholarships to 16 local high school seniors who are participating in an innovative workplace mentoring program operated in conjunction with the Miami HEAT and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami.  Each student also received a laptop computer, compliments of Carnival, Dell and Microsoft. The students are graduates of the Carnival-sponsored HEAT Academy, an after-school enrichment program for third- to fifth-grade students.  Since completing the program, Carnival has tracked their academic progress through middle school and the students were then selected to participate in the workplace mentoring program during high school.  Administered by the Carnival Foundation, the workplace mentoring program…

Carnival Breeze Comes To The Aid Of Two Mariners In Need Of Urgent Medical Care

Yesterday evening at approximately 8:30 p.m., Carnival Breeze was alerted by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) that two adults on a sailboat were in need of urgent medical care.  Carnival Breeze deviated course and proceeded to the location of the sailboat, roughly 24 miles southeast of Miami, and brought the individuals on board where they were evaluated by the ship’s physician. Although the original plan was to transfer the two individuals to a USCG cutter, strong currents and large swells prevented a safe transfer so one of the guests whose condition was considered more serious was airlifted via a USCG helicopter last night and the other remained on board until Carnival Breeze reached Key West, its first scheduled port…

This past weekend, Carnival Splendor kicked off its new year-round schedule from New York with an eight-day cruise to the Bahamas and Florida, becoming the newest and largest “Fun Ship” ever to sail from the Big Apple. Carnival Dream To Resume Sailing From Port Canaveral Today

The 130,000-ton Carnival Dream resumes service from Port Canaveral, Fla., today when it embarks on a seven-day cruise to the Caribbean. The ship underwent repairs earlier this week to address a malfunction in the emergency diesel generator. Emergency back-up power has been restored. Certification and clearance for the Carnival Dream to resume service has been received from all necessary regulatory organizations, including the United States Coast Guard. Today’s voyage on Carnival Dream will sail with more than 4,500 guests on board. Carnival Dream operates year-round seven-day cruises from Port Canaveral, with voyages alternating weekly to the eastern and western Caribbean.

Given the necessary lead time to source needed materials and implement the enhancements, Carnival will extend the current out-of-service period…
