When Diane Taylor stepped off the Carnival Legend’s gangway in Dublin this morning, little did she know she would make history as the port’s one millionth cruise passenger.   Coincidentally, Carnival Legend was the 100th cruise ship to visit the historic Irish port this year. In recognition of this honor, the Canadian resident was greeted by the Lord Mayor of Dublin and other local dignitaries who presented Taylor with a bouquet of flowers, a complimentary tour of the city via limousine for her and her husband, and 1,000 euros in spending money.   Students participating in Carnival’s innovative Scholarship & Mentoring program had a special guest speaker for their first meeting of the school year – two-time NBA champion Shane Battier of the Miami Heat. The program, operated by the Carnival Foundation, matches Miami-Dade area high school students with a member of Carnival’s management team to provide a first-hand look at the business world.  At the end of each year, Carnival awards 15 students with full four-year scholarships purchased through the Florida Pre-Paid Scholarship Foundation. Later today, Carnival Legend will depart Dover, UK, on a 15-day trans-Atlantic crossing that will feature stops at six breathtaking destinations across two continents, including the line’s first-ever visit to Greenland. The cruise, which ends in New York on October 10, includes day-long visits to the charming and historic cities of Dublin, Ireland; Glasgow (Greenock), Scotland; Belfast (Northern Ireland); Reykjavik, Iceland; Qaqortoq, Greenland; and St. John’s, Newfoundland (Canada). As part of its new role as Official Celebration Partner of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, Carnival Cruise Lines hosted a fun-filled “Day of Play” for the kids and their families at the Memphis, Tenn., facility, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Julius Named Senior Managing Director of U.S. Trade Sales For Carnival Cruise Lines

Mike Julius has been promoted to senior managing director of U.S. trade sales for Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise operator. An accomplished member of the Carnival sales team for 24 years, Julius most recently served as managing director of U.S. trade sales. In his new role, he will oversee Carnival’s U.S. sales force and be responsible for trade support, including training and development, as well as business development growth. Carnival Cruise Lines today launched a new promotion offering savings of up to $400 per stateroom, best available upgrades and 50 percent reduced deposits on a wide variety of three- to 15-day “Fun Ship” cruises departing between March and December 2014. Consumers who book a Carnival cruise between now and September 30, 2013, will receive savings of up to $200 per stateroom on two- to five-day cruises and savings of up to $400 per stateroom on voyages of six days or longer, as well as best available upgrades and 50 percent reduced deposits.  The promotion applies to voyages to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and New England departing between March 1 and December 31, 2014. Earlier this week, Carnival Glory made its 100th call to Saint John, New Brunswick, and to commemorate this milestone, a ceremony was held on board with port executives, local officials and the ship’s officers in attendance.
