Carnival Freedom scored 100 during its most recent United States Public Health (U.S.P.H.) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., marking the ship’s eighth perfect score in its past 10 inspections.  Carnival Freedom is the fifth Carnival Cruise Lines ship to earn a perfect U.S.P.H. inspection score this year. To earn a 100 score, cruise ships must receive perfect marks on all 44 items that comprise the U.S.P.H.’s comprehensive Vessel Sanitation Program checklist. The unannounced inspections, which are conducted twice a year and required for any cruise ship with an international itinerary calling at a U.S. port, evaluate vessels in a wide variety of areas, including adherence to proper food handling, preparation and storage procedures, and overall galley cleanliness. Carnival Sunshine – which earlier this year underwent a massive 75-day, $155 million makeover that added a wide variety of new and expanded features – has been named “Best Ship Refurbishment” in Cruise Critic’s 2013 Editors’ Picks, which recognize cruise lines in a wide range of product- and service-related categories. Carnival Sunshine was acknowledged for its incredible transformation – the ship “came out of dry dock nearly unrecognizable,” according to Cruise Critic editors.  The ship’s makeover incorporated all of the line’s Fun Ship 2.0 product innovations, from the cocktail pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and EA Sports Bar to the family friendly Hasbro, The Game Show and Guy’s Burger Joint developed in tandem with Food Network star Guy Fieri, among others. Carnival Glory welcomed some special visitors during a recent call in Portland, Maine – more than two dozen students and their chaperones from the University of Southern Maine’s tourism and hospitality program who were there to learn more about the wide-ranging shipboard professions on board and get a first-hand look at the inner-workings of a modern-day cruise ship. The students and chaperones were treated to a guided tour of the massive 110,000-ton cruise ship and had the opportunity to ask questions regarding a wide variety of topics, from logistics and provisioning to entertainment and food and beverage service requirements for more than  3,000 guest and 1,000 crew who sail each voyage. Carnival fans, you did it!  A phenomenal level of support from our enthusiastic fans resulted in Carnival taking top honors in MONOPOLY Empire’s “Battle of the Brands” social media event launched earlier this week. 9.30 am – Sunday, Oct. 6 — Carnival Cruise Lines has two ships homeported in New Orleans whose operations have been impacted by Tropical Storm Karen.  Given the closure of the Mississippi River, the arrivals of both Carnival Elation and Carnival Conquest to New Orleans were delayed.   Both vessels maintained a safe distance from the storm while awaiting the re-opening of the river. Both are now expected to dock at the Port of New Orleans this afternoon. Carnival Legend is continuing its 15-day trans-Atlantic adventure with an unforgettable call in Greenland, the line’s first-ever visit to that country.  While braving temperatures approaching     0 degrees, guests had an opportunity to explore the charming seaside town of Qaqortoq with its rugged rock formations and snow-covered mountainous landscape dotted with colorful structures, many of which date back hundreds of years.   Guests dined on local cuisine, hiked the rocky coastline and marveled at the country’s pristine natural beauty.
