Giving Thanks

by Joyce Oliva

As part of an annual Thanksgiving tradition, members of Carnival Cruise Lines’ volunteer service group, the Friends Uniting Neighbors (F.U.N.) Team, prepared and served hundreds of meals at Camillus House, a homeless assistance center located in downtown Miami.  More than 30 Carnival employees participated in the event, helping carve 60 turkeys for 700 homeless men and women at the facility. Established in 1997, the F.U.N. Team is a grassroots organization that goes beyond traditional volunteer service initiatives, providing employees with opportunities to venture out into the community and offer help where it is needed most.  Run by the company’s employees, the volunteer service group seeks out charitable and social service organizations on their own and then interacts with them…

The Fort Lauderdale Improv was recently transformed into Carnival’s Punchliner Comedy Club – for one night, at least – as part of a special fundraiser that generated more than $10,000 for CHARLEE of Dade County – a 20 percent increase over the amount raised last year. The funds will be used to help CHARLEE fulfill its mission of assisting abused, abandoned and neglected children and their families throughout South Florida. Sponsored by Carnival’s Global Contact Center and hosted by Eli Rodriguez, one of the company’s personal vacation planners who is also a professional comedian, the evening featured hilarious 30-minute sets by four of the cruise line’s most popular comedians – John Dicrosta, Tony Esposito, Thea Vidale and Billy D.…

Carnival Cruise Lines has launched a new video series highlighting kids’ unique interpretations of the various features found aboard the “Fun Ships” using engaging stop-motion animation that brings these colorful stories to life. In the first video in the Sea & Say series, “A Sea Dragon Tail,” Nathaniel describes his first experience down the massive WaterWorks water slide, creating an imaginative tale of riding a massive serpent  and then “climbing a mountain” — the ship’s suspended ropes course – and sparring with a grimacing troll along the way. In the second video, “A Magical Rainbow Sea,” Mateo envisions a flying “Fun Ship” that sails across the sky – at “hyper speed,” of course – amongst bright, fluffy clouds resembling…
