Guests and crew aboard Carnival Cruise Line joined millions of individuals across the U.S. to celebrate the total eclipse of the sun which took place yesterday at approximately 2 p.m. EDT.

Upwards of 20,000 special glasses were provided on board to view this rare and fascinating astronomical event which is the result of the alignment of the sun, Earth and moon to block sunlight from reaching the Earth and doesn’t happen again for another seven years.

A number of fun eclipse-themed activities were also held across the fleet, everything from viewing and sailaway parties complete with appropriate music, games and more to a Sun Dance Competition with participants vying to “bring out the sun” on deck.   Aptly, Blue Moon beer specials were available, as well.
