    Carnival Elation Captain and Crew Recognized with AFRAS Humanitarian Assistance Award

    Captain Gaetano Gigliotti and the crew of the cruise ship Carnival Elation have been recognized with the Cruise Line Humanitarian Assistance Award from the Association for Rescue at Sea (AFRAS), an organization whose mission is to provide worldwide support and assistance to volunteer maritime rescue services and recognize and honor extraordinary maritime rescues. Presented during AFRAS’ annual reception in Washington, DC, the award honors Captain Gigliotti and his team for their incredible bravery in the rescue of a stranded fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico during Hurricane Irma last year.   In addition to the AFRAS Award, Captain Gigliotti was presented with a framed copy of the entry into the Congressional Record by Florida Congresswoman Federica Wilson commending the life-saving…

  • Continuing its role as the Official Celebration Partner of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, Carnival Cruise Line held its Sixth Annual Day of Play for patients and their families at the Memphis, Tennessee, hospital. This year’s theme was “Carnival at the Carnival” with a variety of fun arcade games, face-painting, photo booth, branded giveaways and traditional food like corn dogs, funnel cakes and other delicious treats with entertainment provided by nearly 40 of the line’s cruise directors who were on hand for their annual conference held at the hospital.     Carnival Fascination Rescues Barbados Fishermen In Distress

      At approximately 10 pm Wednesday, Carnival Fascination responded to a distress signal from a small fishing boat that was 25 nautical miles from Barbados.  The boat had run out of fuel and was adrift. The two fisherman, from Barbados, ages 43 and 51, were rescued and taken aboard Carnival Fascination. They received medical assistance, a hot meal and accommodations. They also had the opportunity to call their families. “We are extremely proud of the team on Carnival Fascination for rescuing these fishermen in distress,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy. “Performing such a procedure at night is extremely challenging and I applaud the team for their efforts in saving lives at sea.” The ship is in St. Lucia…

  •   Carnival Cruise Line has announced that for the first time ever, a female cruise director and entertainment director tandem will bring out a new ship – Carnival Panorama, set to debut in December 2019.  British-born Emma Nixon will serve as cruise director and Canadian native Brittany Boyd entertainment director when the 133,500-ton cruise ship sets sail next year from Long Beach, Calif., becoming Carnival’s first new ship homeported on the West Coast in more than 20 years.   •   Carnival Cruise Line, the world’s largest cruise operator, has reached an agreement in principle with the Canaveral Port Authority on a new state-of-the-art terminal able to accommodate its new 180,000-ton ship, the largest ever constructed for the line, set to debut in 2020. The terms of the agreement are expected to be included on the agenda of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners’ meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018. If approved, the agreement will clear the way for Carnival Cruise Line’s plans to homeport the as-yet-unnamed 5,286-lower berth ship at Port Canaveral, further bolstering the line’s position as the port’s number one cruise operator.   • Carnival Cruise Line today revealed plans for a nearly $200 million bow-to-stern makeover for Carnival Triumph in the spring of 2019 that will include renaming the ship to reflect its significant transformation.  The ship will join Carnival’s Sunshine class and will be named Carnival Sunrise after a two-month-long refurbishment that will take place in Cadiz, Spain, starting March 1. The dry dock makeover will add all of Carnival’s wildly popular branded food, beverage and entertainment innovations, as well as update all staterooms in a broad spectrum of new accommodations providing guests fresh and exciting seagoing vacation choices.
